Recommended Poker Reading.

There are a lot of poker books out on the market, and finding a good one is like finding a needle in a haystack. Having said that, I’ve got around to reading quite a few poker books in my time (most based on prior recommendations), and have come across a number of great poker texts.

I’m a player that puts a lot of emphasis on what the other players are holding, so I hold my knowledge of tells very dear to me. I think being able to read other players is an invaluable skill to have, greater than being able to calculate odds (depending on how well you can actually read people at the poker tables, of course). I should mention, however, that I’m not earning a commission by advertising these books here (unlike a lot of other poker sites), so these are not paid advertisements.

So, number 1 on my list is Mike Caro’s Book of Poker Tells. Unfortunately for me, being from Australia, we don’t really have any local book stores to pick up poker books from. So amazon is the way to go!

Number 2 on my list is Lessinger’s Book of Bluffs. This book will help you out regardless of whether you’re a beginner or a more seasoned player.

Number 3, and lastly, is Ciaffone’s Improve your Poker. This is probably directed at the more advanced players that are out there, who are just looking for an extra edge to their game.

The list is short for a reason. Don’t overwhelm yourself with poker knowledge that you are unable to digest! Start off with one book, learn it, implement it - and don’t move on until you can seamlessly incorporate their (good) ideas into your poker game.
